Smithsonian Journeys travel quarterly

A new magazine being created by The Smithsonian, their first in over three decades. Along with designing from scratch, the studio will be producing each quarterly issue into the foreseeable future. The newsstand-only magazine is one-topic, a hybrid somewhere between a magazine and a book. The cover will be using illustration and ample white space to — hopefully — set it off from other travel magazines which favor big use of photography.

UPDATE: Alas, Smithsonian decided to end publication after two years. What can you do? Publishing is a tough business.
